Melaka: The Melaka State Government today launched the state-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2026 to foster the spirit of patriotism and liven up the country's independence celebrations in the state. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the 69th National Day celebration on August 31 will take place at Dataran Klebang, featuring a fresh look at a more strategic location.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the celebration this year will be highlighted by the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival, organized by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). In addition, the state government is offering free entry to selected tourism products in Melaka for all visitors and tourists on August 31, as part of the independence day festivities.
During the Melaka State Government Administration Monthly Assembly, Chief Minister Ab Rauf officiated the launch of the National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2026. He also flagged off the state-level Fly the Jalur Gemilang Convoy at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Ayer Keroh. The Chief Minister urged all departments, agencies, local authorities, state subsidiary companies, and the people of Melaka to display the Jalur Gemilang on government buildings, business premises, educational institutions, residential areas, and throughout the state.
Highlighting the essence of patriotism, Ab Rauf emphasized that it should not only be demonstrated through the flying of the Jalur Gemilang but also through the trust and responsibilities carried out, particularly by civil servants. He also announced the appointment of Datuk Salhah Salleh as the new State Secretary, succeeding Datuk Azhar Arshad, who is retiring. Additionally, Datuk Md Azhan was named the new State Financial Officer.
Meanwhile, when speaking to reporters, Ab Rauf revealed that the state government has established a Youth Tourism Fund amounting to RM500,000. This initiative aims to encourage the younger generation to venture into the tourism business. The fund is expected to benefit between 20 to 200 youths aged 20 to 35, offering up to RM10,000 for each eligible recipient to start their business in the sector. He noted that whether it's through souvenir sales or tour guiding, the initiative provides an opportunity to nurture and train young entrepreneurs, given Melaka's strong foundation as a tourism state. Applications for the fund can be made directly at the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) office.
