Membrane Technology Research Specialist Wins 2025 National Technologist Award

Kuala lumpur: Membrane technology research specialist Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, who is also the former vice-chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has won the 2025 National Technologist Award.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Fauzi, who is also the founder of the Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), received the award in conjunction with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) Experts Network in Technology, Innovation and Cooperative Event, organised by MBOT.

UTM stated that the award recognizes his pioneering work in the research, innovation, and commercialization of membrane technologies, which includes water treatment, water desalination, gas separation, and sustainable energy.

"He is a prominent UTM alumnus who always upholds the university's name on the international stage and the recognition enhances his position as one of the country's influential technologists beyond international borders through academic leadership, research excellence and guidance of a new generation of scientists and engineers," UTM said in a statement.

The award was presented by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang. Ahmad Fauzi remarked in the statement that the award symbolizes not just an endorsement of his journey as a researcher and academic, but also an appreciation for the collaborative efforts of researchers, students, and industry partners who believed in the potential of membrane technology.

His academic journey includes earning a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering (B.Eng) and a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering (MSc) from UTM, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
