Kuala lumpur: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Tower in Damansara is poised to serve as a strategic thinking hub for the sustainable development of Malaysia's creative industry on both regional and international fronts. This announcement was made by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, highlighting a significant shift in the country's creative sector landscape.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo emphasized that Menara FINAS Damansara signifies a new era for the agency as a cornerstone in the advancement of the film industry and creative content in Malaysia. The relocation of FINAS operations from Petaling Jaya to the new tower is more than a simple change of address; it represents a transformation within the organization.
Teo stressed the move as a reflection of the MADANI Government's commitment to keeping FINAS dynamic and prepared to face forthcoming challenges. "Menara FINAS has become a symbol of organisational transformation, a centre for strategic thinking, and a catalyst for the development of a more sustainable, innovative, and competitive national creative industry at both the regional and international levels," she remarked during the Symbolic Ceremony of FINAS's Operations Transfer to Menara FINAS Damansara.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, FINAS chairman Datuk Hans Isaac, and CEO Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib. The ceremony also featured the official transfer of the FINAS Petaling Jaya building plaque to Menara FINAS Damansara.
FINAS's administration and management operations are expected to be fully centralized at Menara FINAS Damansara by August 1, following a phased relocation process initiated last month. Teo reiterated the ministry's ongoing support for FINAS in empowering local talent and expanding the country's reach in global markets, ultimately aiming to fortify Malaysia's status as a key hub for creative content.
Reflecting on the heritage of the FINAS complex in Petaling Jaya, Teo recounted its inauguration by the third Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, on August 24, 1965. The complex has historically served as the operational hub for Filem Negara Malaysia before FINAS took over its management in 2013.
Throughout its decades-long existence, the complex has been instrumental in nurturing talent, offering professional training, and strengthening the industry's ecosystem. Many renowned figures and artists who have brought international acclaim to Malaysia maintain strong connections with this historical institution.
