Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup: Young Tigers Beat Switzerland 7-3

Chennai: The national men's junior hockey squad triumphed over Switzerland with a decisive 7-3 victory in the FIH Men's Hockey Junior World Cup's 13th to 16th place classification match at Mayor Hockey Stadium, Chennai, India today. The match showcased Malaysia's offensive prowess and strategic gameplay, which were instrumental in securing the win. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia asserted their dominance early on, establishing a 2-0 lead with goals from penalty corners by Muhammad Aqil Danial Mat Ruslee in the fifth minute and Muhammad Handzalah Abdul Hadi a minute later. Switzerland responded with a goal by Jens Fluck in the 13th minute, signaling a competitive start to the game. The Malaysian team, unfazed by Switzerland's response, continued their scoring streak. Muhammad Harris Iskandar Osman capitalized on a penalty stroke in the 19th minute, followed by a field goal from Rahul Fazrien Muhammad just two minutes later, closing the first half at a commanding 4-1 lead. In the second half, Swit zerland attempted a comeback with a field goal by Leonard Kraxner in the 32nd minute. However, Malaysia maintained their stronghold, with Azimuddin Syakir Kamaruddin scoring from a penalty corner in the 37th minute. Malaysia further extended their lead with field goals from Muhammad Aqil Danial in the 43rd minute and Muhammad Danish Aiman Khairul Anuar in the 46th minute. Switzerland managed a final consolation goal through Jens Fluck towards the end of the match. Head coach Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting their adherence to the game plan and their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. In an audio message shared by the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC), he commended the players for maintaining control throughout the match, ensuring the 7-3 victory over Switzerland.
