Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a special weather forecast for the upcoming 2026 National Day celebrations, predicting a mix of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and haze across various states on August 31.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a graphic released on MetMalaysia's Facebook page indicates that Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor should brace for morning thunderstorms. Afternoon storms are expected in Perak, Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan, while Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan may also see rain at night. Meanwhile, Perlis, Kedah, and Penang are forecast to have clear weather throughout the day.

The forecast highlights that Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan are likely to face haze throughout the day. In Sabah, thunderstorms and rain are anticipated in the interior and Sandakan areas, with Tawau expecting morning thunderstorms and night rain. The west coast of Sabah is expected to experience haze.

In Sarawak, widespread haze is predicted in areas including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, and others. Kapit and Miri are expected to receive rain at night, while Limbang might encounter afternoon thunderstorms followed by rain at night.

In a separate update, MetMalaysia noted that the Klang Valley and the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia are likely to be hazy on the eve of National Day. Hazy conditions are forecasted for several regions, including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, and others.

The forecast also suggests rain in Perak, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, and parts of Sabah, with clear conditions anticipated in Perlis, Kedah, and Penang on the night before the celebrations. MetMalaysia advises attendees of the National Day events to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential weather changes.
