MIC Marks 80th Anniversary With Nationwide Engagement Programmes

Kuala lumpur: Various programmes will be held nationwide from May 21 in conjunction with MIC's 80th anniversary celebration to encourage greater participation from both party members and the public, said its president Tan Sri S A Vigneswaran. He said it includes family-oriented events, medical camps, sports activities, speech competitions and town hall sessions, culminating in a grand celebration in the capital on July 26.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the celebration would go beyond commemorating the party's history, instead serving as an opportunity to strengthen engagement with the wider Indian community while highlighting MIC's long-standing contributions and role in national development. Vigneswaran said during a media briefing on the upcoming celebrations that despite facing political and organisational challenges over the years, MIC had continued serving the community throughout its eight decades of existence.

He mentioned that MIC has carried out numerous welfare and community initiatives including educational assistance, medical programmes, food aid distribution and social support efforts. Vigneswaran emphasized that MIC remained relevant as a political platform representing the interests and aspirations of the Indian community in Malaysia.

Vigneswaran further stated that MIC leaders and members must continue demonstrating commitment and determination in strengthening the party. He highlighted the importance of the participation of youths, including members from MIC Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri wings, as they represent the future leadership of the party.
