Kuala lumpur: The Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 (PRM 2.0), a voluntary amnesty initiative, has generated over RM88 million in revenue as of February 23, according to Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. The programme, which allows undocumented migrants to return to their home countries without facing prosecution, was launched on May 19, 2025, and is set to run until April 30.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PRM 2.0 has recorded 177,000 registrations, with more than 100,000 illegal immigrants repatriated to their countries of origin. Datuk Zakaria Shaaban highlighted the significant contribution of the programme to government revenue, stating that discussions are still ongoing at the ministry level regarding the continuation or conclusion of the programme in April.
Zakaria mentioned an increase in response to the programme, particularly during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. He also announced that appointments for registration are no longer required, as walk-ins are now accepted, and the programme's reach extends beyond the Klang Valley.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously confirmed the government's approval to extend PRM 2.0 from May 19, 2025, to April 30, 2026, covering Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan. Under the programme, an RM500 compound is imposed for offences related to entering and staying in Malaysia without a valid pass or overstaying beyond the pass expiry, while a RM300 compound is imposed for violating pass conditions.
PRM 2.0 offers illegal immigrants exemption from prosecution, allowing them to regularise their status by paying compounds for certain offences.
