Military Officer Charged With Murder Of Bangladeshi Influencer

Kuala lumpur: A military officer was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of a Bangladeshi influencer following a road incident on the Maju Expressway (MEX) last week. Captain Jad Faid Arhan, 31, is accused of causing the death of Mozahid Millad, 22, at Kilometre 1.9 of the expressway along the Salak Selatan-Jalan Tun Razak stretch at 5.30 am on April 23.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jad Faid nodded in understanding when the charge was read out before Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan. No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

In a separate proceeding before Magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan, Jad Arhan was charged with two counts of driving a Ford Fiesta under the influence of alcohol, resulting in him being unable to control the vehicle. The act led to serious injuries to e-hailing driver Jailani Sapih, 41, and his passenger Nafisa Tabassum Adiba, 20, who is Mozahid's wife, at the same location and time.

Jad Faid was charged under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a minimum prison sentence of seven years and a maximum of 10 years, as well as a fine of not less than RM30,000 and not more than RM50,000, upon conviction. Kuala Lumpur prosecution director Datuk Mohd Nordin Ismail applied for the case to be transferred to the previous court for joint trial.

'I request that this case be transferred to Magistrate's Court 2 as the accused is facing a murder charge there, where no bail was granted. Before this court, I also object to the bail application,' he said. Counsel Muhammad Nazreen Jaafar Abdullah, representing the accused, told the court that the defence would not be applying for bail due to the existing murder charge.

Both courts denied bail to the accused and fixed July 21 for case mention. Previously, police confirmed the accident, stating that initial investigations found a Ford Fiesta driven by a military officer, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, had veered into the opposite lane before colliding with a Perodua Alza driven by a 41-year-old man carrying two passengers from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). As a result of the collision, a Bangladeshi e-hailing passenger died at the scene from severe head injuries, while a female passenger was injured.
