MINDEF Sets RM5 Million Target for 2026/2027 Warriors’ Fund Campaign

Hanoi:The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has announced a target to raise RM5 million through the 2026/2027 Warriors' Fund campaign. This initiative aims to enhance the welfare of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin expressed confidence in achieving this goal, highlighting the robust support from the public and corporate sectors in past campaigns. The fund collections have shown a growing trend, with RM1.306 million raised in 2023/2024, RM2.19 million in 2024/2025, and RM3.351 million in 2025/2026.

The fund primarily assists veterans and their dependants, focusing on those bedridden or from low-income backgrounds. It covers necessities not provided by the government, such as special formula milk, diapers, and disposable medical supplies. The launch of the campaign was attended by notable figures, including the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and top military officials.

Public and corporate contributions to the fund reflect high regard for the nation's defenders. Contributors can avail of income tax relief on their donations. The government has also allocated RM304 million to the MAF Veteran Affairs Department in Budget 2027 to support veterans' welfare.

Dr Wan Azizah urged Malaysians to participate in the 'Satu Rakyat, Satu Ringgit' campaign, stressing the importance of financial support for veterans facing medical and living expenses. She emphasized the need for integrity in managing donations and fulfilling promises to the veterans.

During the event, 60 wounded war veterans received RM500 each, with additional aid distributed to their bank accounts. The JHEV currently cares for about 200 wounded war veterans.
