Minimum Wage Order 2024 Review Set for September Completion: Deputy Minister

Kuala lumpur: The review of the Minimum Wage Order 2024 is expected to be completed this September, Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan announced. He stated that the findings from this review would be crucial in determining whether to adjust or maintain the current minimum wage rate.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khairul Firdaus emphasized the government's commitment to engaging with all stakeholders throughout the process to ensure that decisions, plans, and implementations align with their needs. He reassured the public that the government remains dedicated to protecting the welfare of all parties involved and that any potential changes to the Minimum Wage Order will not hinder the growth and development of the employment ecosystem.

The Minimum Wage Order 2024, which mandates a monthly rate of RM1,700, was implemented on August 1 of the previous year and is applicable to all employers, irrespective of their workforce size. Non-compliance with this order could result in significant penalties for employers, including fines up to RM10,000 per employee, with an additional RM1,000 per day for continued offences post-conviction. Repeat offenders may face fines of up to RM20,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of five years.
