Ministry Establishes Technical Group to Tackle Price Disparities in Sabah and Sarawak

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has formed a technical working group aimed at crafting an action plan to stabilize prices in the regions of Sabah and Sarawak. Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh announced the initiative, which involves collaboration with industry players to address challenges such as logistics cost efficiency, supply chain strengthening, and inter-regional distribution optimization.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, findings from a price stabilisation study in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territories highlighted logistics and transportation costs as the primary factors contributing to price disparities between regions. Dr Fuziah underscored the ministry's commitment to addressing these issues, stating, "This is among the interventions taken by the ministry to ensure we are responsive to the real cost-of-living situation."

The ministry is also actively rolling out essential goods distribution programs across Malaysia, with a particular focus on Sabah and Sarawak. This effort is part of a comprehensive strategy to audit and adjust essential goods prices, combat the influence of middlemen and cartels, and ultimately ensure fair pricing for consumers in these regions.
