Kuala lumpur: The Communications Ministry is coordinating efforts to ensure that funding for the Malaysian Media Council (MMC) is provided soon, said Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He mentioned that a meeting would also be held with the 12 members of the MMC founding board soon to discuss matters related to the council.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi explained that he had already conducted an online meeting with members of the founding board and plans to follow up with a physical meeting. To accommodate representatives not based in the Klang Valley, a suitable time will be arranged to invite everyone.
Previously, Fahmi announced that the MMC founding board comprises 12 members, with four representatives from each category: media companies, media associations, media practitioners, and independent media practitioners, as well as non-media members.
In another development, Fahmi shared that the Cabinet was briefed on the implementation of Op Kesan 4.0, in line with the revised Sales Tax rate and expanded scope of the Service Tax, effective from yesterday. The operation, under the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), aims to prevent profiteering due to the expanded scope of the SST.
He urged the public to report any business premises that unreasonably increase prices. Fahmi assured that KPDN would quickly identify and take appropriate action against such establishments.
Meanwhile, Fahmi mentioned that the Health Ministry (MOH) has been asked to remain vigilant regarding the current hot weather due to the Southwest Monsoon, which began on May 10 and is expected to continue until September. The MOH has been requested to issue health advisories regarding outdoor activities during this period.
The Cabinet has acknowledged several hot weather warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in connection with the Southwest Monsoon. The public is advised to stay informed of any notices or announcements issued by MetMalaysia.
