MMEA Proposes New Radar System To Bolster Enforcement Along Kelantan Coast

Kota bharu: The Kelantan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) plans to install the Remote Sensored Site (RSS) Swasla radar system in the state's coastal area to enhance enforcement operations. Kelantan MMEA director, Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi, said the radar system has been proposed for construction in Mukim Tabar, Tumpat, due to its location bordering Thailand. He said the radar installation in the area would boost the detection of cross-border criminal activities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Erwan Shah mentioned that Kelantan MMEA is in the midst of securing a site as a permanent office for the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post. He noted that the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post has been operational since February 6, 2013, utilizing a 900-square-foot building and jetty at the Pengkalan Kubor Customs Complex. However, the limitations of the existing facility have hindered operational effectiveness in the area.

A four-hectare site has been identified as a strategic location for the development of the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post, suitable for the construction of an office, staff quarters, and to accommodate the RSS Swasla. The site's proximity to Thailand makes it a key route for smuggling operations by sea before reaching the river estuaries, Erwan Shah explained.

The proposal for the radar system has been submitted to the MMEA Development Division and subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for consideration and approval. Kelantan Maritime hopes the proposal for the permanent development of the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post will be approved soon to benefit Malaysia Maritime's operations.
