Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) has announced the launch of the MNCF BMX Racing Super League, with the inaugural rounds scheduled for November 28 and 29. This development comes in response to Yayasan Sime Darby's (YSD) decision to end its partnership and discontinue the YSD Track Series and BMX YSD 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MNCF president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill stated that the new league aims to ensure the continued development and competitive progression of BMX Racing in Malaysia. Plans are already underway to expand the program in 2027. Amarjit expressed disappointment over YSD's decision, noting that MNCF believes the issues could have been resolved at YSD's leadership level.
Amarjit explained that the incident leading to the current situation was brought to MNCF's attention only in March 2026. MNCF then sought further clarification and provided opportunities for addressing the issue. He acknowledged YSD's significant contributions to Malaysian cycling but emphasized that mutual respect among stakeholders is crucial for a professional and sustainable partnership.
As president of the Asian Cycling Confederation, Amarjit reiterated that the development of athletes will continue independently of any single individual or organization. He stressed that MNCF's responsibility to develop the sport and provide opportunities for athletes remains firm, even as partners and programs may change.
Regarding track cycling, Amarjit highlighted that MNCF will reinforce its development pathway through the JCM program, conducted in collaboration with the National Sports Council (MSN). This program serves as a robust platform for identifying and nurturing young track cyclists.
Amarjit assured riders, parents, coaches, and clubs that MNCF will maintain ongoing development efforts. He underscored MNCF's commitment to providing opportunities and advancing the pathway for the next generation of Malaysian cyclists.
He concluded by affirming MNCF's dedication to working with all stakeholders who share the goal of advancing Malaysian cycling through professionalism, cooperation, and mutual respect. YSD had previously announced the postponement of the race series due to technical issues involving MNCF.
