Kuala lumpur: A mobile police station will be strategically set up near former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's official residence in Langgak Duta starting tomorrow. This initiative is designed to manage security arrangements during any transfer from prison to the residence.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sentul district police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam confirmed that the mobile police station is scheduled for deployment at the residence from 7 am. Anuar Bakri emphasized that the station's primary role is not to provide round-the-clock security for Najib but to facilitate security during his return process. This includes ensuring the safety of local and foreign media, neighbors, and mitigating traffic congestion and the presence of supporters.
Anuar Bakri also mentioned that while the residence is considered a potential location for house arrest, there has been no official confirmation received by the police. He noted that one of Najib's official residences falls under his jurisdiction, hinting at the possibility of other residences being considered as well.
Responsibility for monitoring Najib, should he serve his sentence under house arrest, falls under the Malaysian Prisons Department, not the Royal Malaysia Police. Anuar Bakri stated that four Prisons Department officers conducted an inspection and assessment of the residence yesterday.
The police deployment for the process will include one supervisor and two personnel, supported by a mobile patrol vehicle unit. Additionally, Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar indicated that standard operating procedures for Najib's house arrest would address visits, security, and monitoring once the official letter is received.
On Friday, a conditional pardon was granted to Najib by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, permitting him to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, contingent upon a RM50 million fine. This decision was made during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
Najib's imprisonment began at Kajang Prison on August 23, 2022, following his conviction in the SRC International case.
