Modenas Plans to Make Egypt an Export Hub for Africa and the Middle East by 2028

Accra:According to BERNAMA News Agency, Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas), Malaysia's national motorcycle manufacturer, is exploring the possibility of entering the Egyptian market by late 2027 or 2028. The company aims to position Egypt as a strategic export hub for its motorcycles across Africa and the Middle East.

Modenas CEO Roslan Roskan revealed that discussions are underway with a potential Egyptian partner interested in the company's scooters and electric motorcycle models. Modenas plans to provide product samples for market evaluation and pricing assessments.

This initiative follows an invitation from Proton, a fellow DRB-HICOM group company, to explore motorcycle export opportunities in Egypt through its existing business network. Roslan highlighted Egypt's potential as a regional distribution hub due to its trade agreements with African and Middle Eastern countries.

Proton Holdings Bhd's deputy CEO, Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa, stated that Proton is also looking to strengthen its presence in Egypt and expand further into Africa. The company aims to introduce new vehicle models, leveraging the growing demand for SUVs and electric vehicles. Proton's existing operations in Egypt include a completely knocked-down assembly operation, contributing to the local automotive industry and economy.
