Moderate Quake Hits South Maluku Sea

Kuala lumpur: A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, struck the South Maluku Sea in Indonesia, at 6.12 am today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 0.2 degrees south and 126.1 degrees east. The tremor was approximately 177 kilometers northwest of West Papua, Indonesia, and occurred at a depth of 114 kilometers.

The initial assessments from MetMalaysia indicate that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia. The department has advised the public to stay informed by visiting the official MetMalaysia website or by following the agency's social media platforms for further updates.
