Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is exploring the potential of turning Keningau into an education hub, including the possibility of establishing a form six college in the district. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the move was in line with the government's aim to expand post-secondary learning opportunities for students in rural areas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized the strategic positioning of Keningau as an education hub, noting the existing vocational college and teacher education institute in the region. The minister highlighted the potential for a form six college to be established under another MOE initiative, aimed specifically at developing Keningau's educational prospects in Sabah.

She addressed this issue in response to a supplementary question from Kesavan Subramaniam (PH-Sungai Siput) during the Minister's Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat. The focus was on plans to strengthen education access in Sabah's interior regions.

Responding to Kesavan's original query on enhancing education in remote areas, Fadhlina assured that the ministry is committed to providing quality education to all students, including those from the Orang Asli community, through innovative and locally adapted methods. She referenced the Sekolah Terapung Tasik Banding programme, an initiative under the Pendidikan Manusiawi special programme (ProKhas), which addresses challenges such as distance, demographics, transport issues, and inadequate school facilities through innovative solutions based on compassion and innovation.

The programme, initiated on October 13, 2025, utilises raft houses as mobile classrooms and caters to 48 Orang Asli students aged six to 16 from four villages around Tasik Banding and Tasik Temenggor. Fadhlina Sidek stated that the MOE considers this a creative and innovative education model with potential for expansion to other remote areas, contingent on need, community readiness, and geographical suitability.
