MOH-BARMM vaccinates 1K vs. pneumococcal, influenza diseases

COTABATO: At least 1,000 people received vaccines against pneumococcal and influenza, as the Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM) intensified its vaccination drive across the region on Monday.

“Our people need to get vaccinated to protect them from common diseases like flu and pneumonia. Those are common these days because of the climate,’ Lyka Guro, the family health cluster-cold chain manager, said in a statement Tuesday.

The campaign is being led by the MOH-BARMM Family Health Cluster under the National Immunization Program.

Guro said Monday’s activity originally aimed to serve only 700 people but surpassed the expected number at 1,000 and running.

The MOH-BARMM first launched the activity during the Bangsamoro Day on January 21 this year with a comparable number of clients.

Among the vaccinees, Shannied Ali, a 37-year-old mother from Barangay Lugay-Lugay, waited patiently for her turn to be vaccinated.

‘For me, it’s not dangerous because It feels good
to the body. Even if there is an illness that comes, I feel like I will be able to withstand it right away,’ she said.

Guro said the vaccines are also available in different rural health units across the region.
