Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) will maintain vigilant oversight of developments and engage with stakeholders such as health service providers, insurers, and professional bodies to safeguard clinical governance. Health director-general Datuk Dr Mahathar Abd Wahab emphasized the ministry's commitment to addressing practices that may risk clinical independence or patient safety within the private healthcare sector.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mahathar highlighted the importance of prioritizing professional judgment and patient rights over cost efficiency in health financing. He stressed that decisions on anaesthesia, treatment methods, and hospital admissions should be guided by clinical needs and ethical standards, rather than administrative or financial considerations.
Dr Mahathar referenced Sections 82 and 83 of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 [Act 586], which protect clinical judgment from external influence. He warned against any actions that undermine medical practitioners' authority or pressure them into unethical conduct, noting that such actions could breach legal provisions.
He urged all parties to uphold professional boundaries and prioritize patient welfare above administrative or financial goals, aligning with the MADANI values of well-being, respect, and compassion.
