Kuala lumpur: Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah has been appointed as the Management Director of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), effective today. He takes over the position from Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, who has been appointed as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the handing over of duties and the pinning of ranks was witnessed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol). Mohamad Zainal, aged 48, has an impressive academic background, having graduated from Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Programme. He also holds a Master of Laws from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and a Master's degree in Human Resource Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

He has previously served in various roles including Deputy Director (Investigation/Legal) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Principal Assistant Director of CID D5 (Prosecution/Law) at Bukit Aman, and as Police Chief for Dang Wangi and Perak Tengah.

At the same event, Abdul Aziz, aged 59, formally assumed the country's second-highest police post from Acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus, following his appointment which was effective from September 9.

The ceremony also included the handover of duties for the position of Bukit Aman Police Secretary to Selangor Internal Security and Public Order Department chief SAC Mohammad Mashdik Yahya, who will serve as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in an acting capacity starting October 12. Additionally, the event marked the pinning of ranks on 25 senior PDRM officers following their promotions.
