Kuala lumpur: Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad has been appointed acting Kuala Lumpur police chief, effective today. He takes over from Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, who was recently appointed as the director of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) on June 25. The official handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters (IPK) and was overseen by Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, director of Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hamzah remarked that the handover-of-duties ceremony transcends mere symbolism or administrative procedure, embodying trust, responsibility, and the commitment to uphold these values for the welfare of the populace and the nation. He extended his congratulations to Mohamed Usuf on his new role as acting Kuala Lumpur police chief, a position he will hold until a permanent chief is appointed.
In his address, Hamzah expressed confidence in Mohamed Usuf's extensive experience, credibility, and leadership, anticipating that the contingent will continue to thrive, maintain stability, and earn public respect under his guidance. Meanwhile, Rusdi, in his farewell speech, thanked the Kuala Lumpur contingent police personnel for their dedication and urged them to persist in their responsibilities with an unwavering spirit, emphasizing the dual role of safeguarding security and upholding public trust.
Earlier in the day, at the Kuala Lumpur police chief's monthly assembly, Rusdi highlighted a significant 28 percent reduction in index crime statistics in Kuala Lumpur for the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. Violent crime saw a 29 percent decrease, from 790 cases in 2024 to 563 cases in 2025, while property crime dropped by 27 percent, from 3,377 cases in 2024 to 2,453 cases this year.
