Mohd Azizulhasni and Shah Firdaus Advance to Keirin Semi-finals at Aichi-Nagoya 2026

Izu:Aichi-Nagoya Track cyclists Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang and Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom have secured their places in the men's keirin semi-finals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, held at the Izu Velodrome.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, both Malaysian riders achieved automatic qualification by finishing second in their respective heats. Mohd Azizulhasni trailed behind China's Xie Han, while Shah Firdaus followed Hong Kong's To Cheuk Hei in his heat.

Japan's Minato Nakaishi and Kazakhstan's Kirill Kurdidi also secured automatic advancement by placing in the top two of their heats. Riders who did not qualify automatically will have another opportunity to advance through the first repechage round.

The semi-finals and finals for the men's keirin event are scheduled for this afternoon.

In the women's events, Nur Alyssa Mohd Farid has advanced to the individual sprint semi-finals after defeating Japanese competitor Aki Sakai 2-0 in the quarter-finals. However, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, a previous keirin bronze medalist, was unable to replicate Alyssa's success, losing 0-2 to China's Jiang Yulu.

Alyssa is set to compete against China's Yuan Liying, the reigning keirin gold medalist, in the semi-finals, while Jiang Yulu will face Japan's Mina Sato in the other semi-final. Meanwhile, Izzah Izzati will participate in races to determine the fifth to eighth positions.
