Mohd Na’im Calls For Immediate Drafting Of Inclusive Syariah Action Plan For PWD

Kuala lumpur: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has urged for the Special Inclusive Syariah Action Plan for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) 2026 to 2030 to be drafted immediately, to ensure Syariah services truly address the community's needs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the PWD community, particularly the visually impaired, faced various challenges, including access to Syariah-related information, physical facilities in courts, job opportunities, and social support, with many still struggling to obtain their rights fairly and with dignity. Mohd Na'im stated that the action plan should be drafted without delay to serve as a comprehensive guide ensuring Syariah services meet the needs of the PWD community in a systematic and effective manner.

He highlighted the importance of expanding PWD-friendly facilities in religious institutions and Syariah courts, such as providing Braille reading materials, sign language interpreters, and awareness training for officers to better understand the realities of life for this group. Additionally, Mohd Na'im emphasized the need for strengthened cooperation between agencies such as the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Department (JKSM), the Family Support Division (BSK), and PWD non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to advance the inclusivity agenda holistically.

Mohd Na'im reinforced that Malaysia MADANI is not just a slogan but a commitment to building a nation that cares for all, regardless of physical, social, or economic background. He underlined Islam's compassionate nature and its principles of maqasid Syariah, which focus on preserving religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property for all citizens. He called on religious institutions, civil society, and Malaysians to collectively support this agenda, ensuring no one is left behind from receiving justice, compassion, and the opportunity to live with dignity.
