Shah alam: Selangor deputy police chief Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan has been appointed as the acting state police chief, effective tomorrow. He takes over from Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who is set to become the director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on July 21.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Dewan D'Cerana, Selangor contingent police headquarters (IPK). The event was witnessed by Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Management Department director, Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid. During his speech, Hussein expressed gratitude to the PDRM leadership for their trust and support during his two-year and five-month tenure, highlighting achievements such as a 12 per cent reduction in the crime index last year and the foiling of major drug smuggling attempts, involving seizures worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.
Hussein stated that the Selangor police seized over 10 tonnes of drugs between 2023 and 2024, valued at RM300 million, preventing the narcotics from reaching more than 21 million potential users. The Selangor contingent recorded 22,000 arrests in 2023, with an increase to 40,000 in 2024. The state Commercial Crime Investigation Department opened investigation papers on 7,115 cases in 2023, involving losses of RM510 million, compared to 7,731 cases in 2024, with losses amounting to RM680 million.
Traffic enforcement issued 1.06 million summonses in 2023, generating RM35.7 million in collections, while in 2024, 1.13 million summonses were issued, with collections totalling RM28 million. Hussein emphasized that these achievements reflect the dedication and teamwork of every officer, personnel, and civil servant who contributed to the force's success.
