MOHE COMMITTED TO SUCCESSFULLY HOSTING ASEAN UNIVERSITY GAMES IN 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is committed to successfully hosting the ASEAN University Games (AUG) following Malaysia’s selection as the host in 2026.

In a statement today, the ministry expressed confidence that organising the games will continue to produce top sports talents and elevate the nation’s profile globally.

“MOHE is also committed to working with other agencies and sports bodies to develop high-performing sports talents who can compete competitively on the international stage,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, MOHE extended congratulations to the national contingent comprising athletes from higher education institutions at AUG 2024 for their outstanding achievement, surpassing the target of 35 gold medals and securing third place at the event, which took place from June 25 to yesterday.

“The national contingent won 38 gold, 45 silver, and 60 bronze medals over 11 days of competition in Surabaya and Malang, Indonesia.

“This remarkable achievement is undoubtedly the resul
t of our national contingent’s hard work. They comprised 263 athletes and 119 officials, and competed in 18 events against 11 other ASEAN countries,” the statement added.

Previously, Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir announced increased incentives for AUG 2024 winners, with RM3,000 for gold medalists, RM2,000 for silver, and RM1,500 for bronze.
