Putrajaya: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has initiated early preparations to tackle the potential impact of year-end floods, focusing on universities situated in flood-prone regions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir highlighted that annual reminders and procedural measures are undertaken, particularly for institutions in the East Coast states, Sabah, and Sarawak. These areas are at increased risk due to the monsoon season, which typically brings flooding towards the end of the year.

Zambry emphasized that universities identified as being at risk have been granted the flexibility to transition to online learning if floods disrupt traditional on-campus activities. "As we know, floods have occurred frequently from last year to this year, and we always issue reminders and make preparations, particularly in states that are often affected," he stated. After evaluating the preparations for the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas (FoI), Zambry confirmed that online classes are part of the approved procedures during flood events.

He further elaborated, "That is one of our procedures. If such a situation arises, online learning can be implemented. We have given that flexibility to universities according to their discretion and specific needs." This measure ensures that educational activities can continue seamlessly despite potential natural disruptions.
