Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is calling on private universities across the nation to implement the Dapur Siswa initiative, a program already in place at all public universities. The initiative aims to support students facing financial hardships by providing meals.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MOHE Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting the financial challenges students at private institutions are experiencing, especially with the rising cost of living. Dr Zambry highlighted that some private universities have already started implementing the Dapur Siswa project, which offers crucial support to students in need.
Dr Zambry shared an example of the initiative's impact, citing Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), where the project provides meals to 300 students daily, ensuring no student goes hungry. This statement was made during the 'In Person With DocZam' session at the university's Dewan Al-Muktafi Billah Shah.
Furthermore, the Minister has instructed university vice-chancellors to remain alert and identify students who require support, ensuring immediate assistance is provided. He also emphasized the importance of universities reporting such cases to the ministry promptly to facilitate timely aid delivery to students in need.
