Kuala lumpur: The monsoon transition phase is expected to start on Sept 30 and last until November, ending the Southwest Monsoon that began on May 10 this year. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) disclosed this information in a statement today, highlighting the changes in weather patterns that the country will experience during this period.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, METMalaysia stated that during the transition phase, Malaysia will experience weak winds from multiple directions. This condition is likely to lead to the formation of thunderstorm clouds, which are typically accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds over a short duration, especially in the afternoon and early evening.
The statement identified the areas most likely to be affected, which include the west and interior regions of Peninsular Malaysia, as well as the west of Sabah and Sarawak. The potential consequences of this weather phenomenon include flash floods, fallen trees, water surges, and damage to weak structures.
As a precaution, METMalaysia advised the public to remain alert and take necessary safety measures. The department also urged citizens to stay informed by following the latest weather updates and warnings through METMalaysia's official channels, including its website, the myCuaca mobile app, and social media platforms.
