More Global Leaders to Participate in 47th ASEAN Summit, Confirms Anwar

Kuala lumpur: More foreign leaders are expected to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October, confirmed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He attributed the anticipated strong participation to the success of the recently concluded 46th ASEAN Summit in May, highlighting the exceptional efficiency of the civil service in managing the high-profile event.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim mentioned that US President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance and will visit Malaysia in conjunction with the summit. Additionally, he anticipates the presence of Chinese and possibly Russian leaders. Anwar expressed his confidence in the government's operational capabilities, citing the seamless cooperation among various departments, including the Home Ministry, Royal Malaysia Police, Prime Minister's Department, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

Anwar, speaking at the 2025 National Day address held at the Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS), shared that the ASEAN meeting hosted earlier this year was regarded as one of the most meticulously organised and largest meetings ever held. The event was attended by notable figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Prime Minister further expressed confidence in Malaysia's ability to organise the 47th ASEAN Summit efficiently and effectively, especially as the ASEAN Chair for 2025. He acknowledged the preparations already underway by the government machinery to ensure thorough security and regulatory compliance.

In addition to US President Donald Trump, world leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz In¡cio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are expected to attend the summit. Malaysia, chairing the regional bloc under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability,' has successfully hosted over 300 ASEAN-related meetings, programmes, and summits throughout the year. This year marks Malaysia's fifth time at the helm, having previously chaired ASEAN in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
