Kuala lumpur: Most of the demands concerning education and healthcare in Sabah and Sarawak have been agreed upon at the Technical Committee meeting of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today. Fadillah, who also serves as Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, emphasized the importance of this meeting as a preparatory step for the upcoming MTPMA63 Meeting No. 1/2025, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching on September 12.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah reported that on the education front, agreements reached include the involvement of state governments in the planning of education development projects, sharing information regarding the transfer of senior officers, and allocating funds for professional development programs. In healthcare, the meeting agreed to several demands, such as increased allocations for operating and development expenditures, granting certain autonomous powers to State Health Directors, and strengthening human resources at the Health Departments of Sabah and Sarawak.
Fadillah mentioned that other pending matters will continue to be addressed under the Joint Action Committee on Education and Health Development for Sabah and Sarawak, under the purview of the Education Ministry (MoE) and Health Ministry (MoH). During the meeting, two briefing papers were presented by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), which will be reviewed at the upcoming MTPMA63 meeting in Kuching.
He added that unresolved demands will be continuously monitored by the Technical Committee under MTPMA63, alongside relevant ministerial-level working committees. The meeting also saw participation from representatives of the Federal Government, Sabah, and Sarawak, including several ministers, deputy ministers, and senior officials.
