Kuala lumpur: Members of parliament appointed to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation's (MOSTI) Friends of Ministry (FOM) will be directly involved in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) culture-building programmes in their respective constituencies.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the ministry stated that this initiative is part of three strategies aimed at empowering backbench MPs as ministry agents to effectively communicate government policies to the public. This effort is driven by the MADANI Government Backbenchers Club.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, during a meeting with FOM, highlighted that the initiative would enhance the ministry's grassroots communication capabilities and contribute to policy discussions for the public's benefit. He emphasized the importance of MP support in delivering the science, technology, and innovation agenda to all societal segments.

The FOM includes several notable MPs: Ngeh Koo Ham (PH-Beruas), Vivian Wong Shir Yee (PH-Sandakan), Chow Yu Hui (PH-Raub), Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timor), Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong), Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Batu Kawan), and Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar). Additional members are Rodziah Ismail (PKR-Ampang), Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PKR-Sungai Petani), Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong), Azli Yusof (PH-Shah Alam), Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud), and Larry Soon (PBM-Julau).

MOSTI's strategies include FOM participation in flagship programmes like STI 100³ and STI MADANI, as well as regular briefings during parliamentary sessions on policies, legislation, and challenges. This encompasses amendments to the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (DSTIN) 2024-2030, drafting the STI Bill, and amendments to the Atomic Energy Bill.

Another strategy is to appoint FOM members as focal MPs for specific agencies under MOSTI, enhancing their roles and responsibilities within the ministry's framework.
