MOT Cracks Down On KLIA Taxi Touts, Vows Zero Tolerance

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued a stern warning that it will not tolerate taxi touting activities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2, following a recent incident that tarnished the country's image and reputation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Anthony Loke stated that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has arrested a taxi tout involved in deceiving a foreign tourist at KLIA Terminal 2 with a highly inflated fare. The incident, which went viral on social media, involved a tourist being coerced into paying RM800, significantly more than the initially agreed fare of RM60.

Loke explained that the tourist was initially offered a fare of RM60, but upon reaching the vicinity of his hotel, the driver diverted to a secluded area and demanded RM836 before releasing him. In response, Loke instructed JPJ to track down the involved vehicle, leading to an undercover operation at KLIA. The JPJ successfully apprehended the driver and seized the vehicle.

Loke shared photos of the seized car on Facebook, commending JPJ for its swift action. An investigation paper has been opened for further action against the driver, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing such illegal activities.
