Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued a directive to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad to install passenger platform doors or platform screen doors at all Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations, aiming to improve passenger safety measures.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, emphasized the importance of this safety enhancement, particularly for older LRT stations currently lacking these features. He noted that newer Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations are already equipped with platform doors, which serve as a barrier between passengers and the train tracks.
Loke highlighted that while MRT stations have these protective doors, some LRT stations still do not, which prompted this directive. The announcement came in response to a tragic incident involving a Taiwanese man who fell onto the tracks and was fatally hit by a train at the Pusat Bandar Puchong Station in Selangor.
The minister confirmed that a report on the incident has been received and that the Royal Malaysia Police are conducting a thorough investigation. He mentioned that CCTV footage will be provided to aid the investigation process.
In addressing queries about communication with the victim's family, Loke stated that Prasarana will work with Wisma Putra to ensure proper follow-up.
