MOTAC Committed To Preserving Petaling Street’s Cultural Identity And Global Appeal

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is committed to preserving the cultural identity of Petaling Street while enhancing its appeal as a global visitor attraction. Its minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing emphasized the importance of balancing the landmark's traditional character with improved tourism standards to sustain Petaling Street's legacy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing highlighted the challenges Petaling Street has faced in recent years, including pressures on local businesses and the need for improvements in cleanliness, order, and visitor experience. He spoke about the importance of maintaining the area's traditional identity while elevating the quality of its tourism offerings. His speech, delivered by Press Secretary Ross Sia Wan Teng during the Mid-Autumn Lantern Parade 2025, underscored Petaling Street's significance as a cultural gateway in Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Tiong also encouraged collaboration between local authorities, traders, and community associations to rejuvenate Petaling Street. He stressed the role of the community in beautifying the streets, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. He believes that by working together, Petaling Street can continue to be both a cultural treasure and a destination that attracts visitors from around the world.
