MOTAC Revokes Kenari Utara Travel & Tours’ Bus Operator Licence

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has revoked the bus operator licence of Kenari Utara Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd (Company No: 806799-V), effective from September 11. MOTAC announced that this decision was taken by the Tourism Commissioner in accordance with Section 8 of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 [Act 482].

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MOTAC emphasized the importance of adherence to legal provisions by licenced tourism operators, underscoring its commitment to safeguarding public welfare and interests. The ministry expressed this stance in a statement released today.

On November 3, the Gerik Magistrate's Court found Kenari Utara Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd guilty on two charges under Regulation 6(1)(f) of the Tourism Industry Regulations 1992. These charges were related to breaches of licence conditions, specifically for conducting transactions with unlicenced parties.

The revocation of the licence is connected to a tragic accident that occurred on June 9 in Gerik, resulting in the deaths of 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).
