Mother Killed, Daughter And Niece Injured In Motorcycle-Lorry Collision

Kuala lumpur: A mother was killed while her daughter and niece were injured after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a lorry at KM123 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan Road near Kemasik town here today. Kemaman District Police Chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli reported that Mariana Mat Hassan, 47, died at the scene after sustaining severe head injuries in the 1.40 pm accident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, her daughter, Tuan Nur Aina Syifa Tuan Ab Rahman, 10, suffered fractures to her left arm and leg, while her niece, Nur Alfira Miqaila Mohd Hilmi, seven, sustained injuries to her left arm and leg. Initial investigations found that the victim, who was riding a Honda Beat motorcycle, was believed to be travelling home to Kampung Gong Cengal, Kemasik, after picking up her daughter and niece from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kemasik.

The motorcycle, believed to have been travelling against the flow of traffic, collided with the front left side of a lorry travelling on the left side of the road. Mohd Razi noted that the 40-year-old lorry driver from Kampung Baru Seri Aman, Johor Bahru, was uninjured.

He stated that the girl and her cousin were receiving treatment at Kemaman Hospital, while the victim's remains were taken to the hospital's forensic unit. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
