Mother’s Soursop Beverage Venture Expands Nationwide with Halal Certification

Kuala Lumpur:When Zai Suhana Mohd Tap's child was diagnosed with eye cancer, she decided to leave her job to care for her child full-time. Faced with the dual challenge of caregiving and providing for her family, she launched a home-based business producing durian belanda (soursop) beverages in 2017. Starting with just 50 to 100 bottles, her venture gradually gained traction in the local community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as demand for her products grew, Zai Suhana's company, Zaieys Global Resources, increased its production to approximately 3,000 bottles a month. The product range now includes original, honey, and lemon flavors, and online sales have expanded her reach throughout Malaysia.

To support her growing business, Zai Suhana accessed financial assistance through Bank Muamalat Bhd's iTEKAD programme in 2022. This assistance allowed her to purchase equipment, increase stock, and expand production capacity. The programme also provided her with mentorship and business coaching, enabling her to enhance her business acumen and marketing strategies.

Zai Suhana has not only expanded her beverage line but also diversified into other soursop-based products, such as tea and processed fruits. This diversification has helped her meet customer needs and sustain her business. Additionally, with guidance from Bank Muamalat, she secured halal certification in 2024, further solidifying customer trust and opening new market opportunities.

Bank Muamalat president and CEO Datuk Khairul Kamarudin emphasized the importance of supporting entrepreneurs like Zai Suhana to build sustainable livelihoods. With the halal certification, Zai Suhana plans to continue expanding her production and reach more customers nationwide.
