Perai: A motorcyclist was killed and his Yamaha 135 LC was destroyed after catching fire in a three-vehicle crash at Kilometre 140.8 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound, in Perai, here today. Muhammad Syahim Rusman, 28, died at the scene from severe injuries, while another motorcyclist was injured in the accident which also involved a trailer.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of Firefighting and Rescue Operations John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 12.43 pm and a team from the Perai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the scene.
'Upon arrival, firefighters found that the accident involved three vehicles -- the victim's motorcycle, another motorcycle (a Honda Dash) and a trailer. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene, while the 37-year-old Honda Dash rider was injured and sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the trailer, who is in his 30s, escaped unhurt,' he said in a statement today.
He added that firefighters carried out overhaul works at the site to ensure there was no further danger to road users. The operation was concluded at 2.11 pm.
