MPI Plans Structured Training Program to Empower Journalists in New Media Landscape – President

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) is planning to implement a structured and high-impact learning program this year to ensure that local journalists maintain integrity and are prepared to face the increasingly complex and digital technology-driven media landscape. Its president, Datuk Yong Soo Heong, stated that the initiative would be carried out through strategic collaboration with relevant agencies and higher learning institutions, aligning with efforts to enhance the country's media training ecosystem.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yong emphasized MPI's commitment to ensuring that Malaysian journalists remain competitive and ready for the evolving media environment, which is increasingly complex and driven by digital technology. He delivered this statement after chairing the MPI Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in a hybrid format. Yong also urged media practitioners, particularly from corporate communications units, to take part in the training program organized by MPI this year.

The meeting saw the participation of 33 members, including proxies representing their respective organizations. Notably present were the chief executive officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin; Media Prima Berhad Television Network News and Current Affairs group editor, Azhari Muhidin; and Media Chinese International group editor-in-chief (Malaysia), Datuk Kuik Cheng Kang.

The statement from the meeting also confirmed the decision to maintain the term of office for the MPI president, deputy president, and vice president at three years, in accordance with Clause 77(b) of the MPI Constitution.
