Kuala lumpur: The National Education Council (MPN), expected to be established this year, is hoped to shed new light on strengthening and advancing the country's education system, especially in addressing challenges brought about by artificial intelligence (AI). Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the global education landscape is changing rapidly, with many countries rethinking their approaches in response to the rise of AI.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry emphasized that AI may be viewed as just a tool, but it has already created a new world perspective on education. He cited China as an example, noting that it recently unveiled a new blueprint to overhaul its education system in preparation for future challenges linked to AI. Zambry made these remarks after launching the national-level Academia Day and Month 2025 celebration, themed AI Integration in Higher Education, at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).
Zambry revealed that a meeting was held earlier in the day to discuss the formation of the MPN, involving the Education Ministry and related ministries, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The meeting concentrated on improving coordination in education, including creating clusters to allow ministries to jointly plan relevant programmes.
Additionally, Zambry inaugurated USIM's AI Syariah Framework, an ethical AI ecosystem developed based on Islamic knowledge disciplines and Maqasid Syariah, under the supervision of qualified experts. He commended the initiative, stressing the importance of guidance and ethics in the field of AI. He expressed hope that USIM's syariah-based approach to AI would be developed effectively.
