MRSM Bullying Incident Highlights Need for Zero Tolerance Policy, Says MARA Chairman

Kuala terengganu: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has announced that a recent bullying incident involving six students at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut should serve as a critical lesson for all students across MRSM colleges to prevent similar behaviors in the future. MARA's chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, emphasized the organization's zero tolerance for any form of bullying, following the suspension and expulsion of the involved students after a thorough investigation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Asyraf expressed his deep disappointment over the incident, reiterating his firm stance against bullying. "I have repeatedly emphasized that I will not compromise on any form of bullying. So what happened at MRSM Besut is very disappointing for me," he stated, noting that the disciplinary processes were strictly followed at the college level.

Dr Asyraf underscored that MARA's principles regarding bullying are unequivocal, and immediate actions such as suspensions are enforced to uphold these standards. He made it clear that the disciplinary committee had no option but to take firm action once the investigation confirmed the students' involvement in bullying.

The chairman further insisted that this case should be a learning point for all MRSM students to recognize the seriousness of bullying. He acknowledged a general decrease in such cases but expressed dissatisfaction with the resurgence of bullying incidents, as evidenced by the MRSM Besut case. "At the MARA level, we suspended six MRSM students who were found to be involved," he confirmed.

Dr Asyraf also highlighted that no justification for bullying is acceptable, emphasizing that the investigation at the MRSM level has concluded, and no appeals will be entertained. He reaffirmed the seriousness of physical bullying actions and the need for comprehensive anti-bullying programs at MRSM.

In response to the incident, MARA has intensified its efforts by initiating various anti-bullying prevention programs, including awareness campaigns, motivational sessions, and counseling services. Dr Asyraf expressed his dedication to achieving zero bullying at MRSM, despite the challenges.

Previously, a media report detailed that a Form Two student at MRSM Besut alleged being bullied by senior students, resulting in physical injuries. The Besut district police chief, Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu, confirmed that a report on the incident was received by his department.
