Penang: The Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) has clarified that it took immediate corrective measures following claims that the welfare of the state's women's sepak takraw players was neglected during the recent Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MSNPP stated that it had informed the Penang Sepak Takraw Association (PSTPP) to swiftly address the weaknesses identified during the Games. The council emphasized that it had provided the necessary team management allocations to PSTPP, covering expenses such as accommodation, transportation, and meals for the players. The responsibility for these arrangements was placed on the team manager throughout the Games.

The MSNPP further explained that each athlete received a daily allowance of RM40 for every day spent in Selangor, with the funds being credited directly into their bank accounts before departure. Additionally, the council conducted briefings for all team managers on their duties and responsibilities, with a focus on athlete management and welfare.

The council reached out directly to the PSTPP president to ensure that immediate corrective and improvement measures were implemented. It also aimed to assess any weaknesses in fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to the association. The MSNPP expressed its commitment to strengthening monitoring and coordination mechanisms for team management, ensuring that every allocation and facility provided is fully utilized for the athletes' welfare and needs.

Previously, several Penang women sepak takraw players shared experiences on social media, alleging mismanagement of their meals, training requirements, supplements, and injury treatment. Some players claimed they had to ask for food and, on some nights, were only provided with fried rice for dinner.
