Felda kerteh 2: The anticipation of a couple eagerly looking forward to welcoming their son home for a holiday later this month turned into shock and heartbreak after they were informed that the 26-year-old policeman had died, believed to have been electrocuted while on duty yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ismarubee Ismail, 51, and his wife Nor Azila Zakaria, 46, said that their son, Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, who was stationed at the Weston Police Station in Beaufort, Sabah, had told them in June that he wanted to take leave but had yet to set a date as he was waiting for affordable flight tickets.

'I received a phone call from my son's friend informing me that he had died at 6 pm yesterday. I could hardly believe it as he had shared news of a successful drug arrest via WhatsApp at 2 pm,' said Ismarubee when met at his residence in Felda Kerteh 2 here today.

Ismarubee, who works as a labourer, said Muhammad Raimi, the second of their three children, began serving at the police station in September 2024 and last returned home for a holiday in January.

Meanwhile, Nor Azila said that her son had expressed his intention to get engaged to a woman from Sabah next year. 'However, he wanted to wait until his youngest sibling had completed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination before getting married as he wanted to focus on his sibling.

'He was a good son. He would buy whatever his siblings needed for their studies, including a laptop, and would send money to us and his siblings almost every month,' she said.

Nor Azila said her son's remains would be brought home by the police and buried at the Felda Kerteh 2 Muslim Cemetery today.

Yesterday, Muhammad Raimi, 26, and two others from the police station - Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, 40, and Lance Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 29 - died after they were believed to have been electrocuted while moving a metal pole used to harvest coconuts outside the Weston Police Station near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Weston.
