Kuala lumpur: The Muslim world today needs more scholars who not only possess profound knowledge and the ability to present sound arguments but are also capable of uniting the ummah through wisdom, good character, and a moderate approach in addressing contemporary challenges, says the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a statement issued by Istana Arau highlighted Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra's keynote address at the Seminar on the Thought of Yusuf al-Qaradawi in Kuala Lumpur. The Raja Muda of Perlis, who is also the Chancellor of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ), emphasized the need for institutions of higher learning, research bodies, and language and literary agencies to collaborate in strengthening the culture of reading, writing, dialogue, and research to enhance knowledge development in the country. The seminar was attended by the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
The seminar, jointly organised by UniSIRAJ, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), and the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), aimed to examine and discuss the ideas and contributions of the late Sheikh Dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a prominent Islamic scholar. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra praised Yusuf al-Qaradawi as a significant figure in the Muslim world, recognized for his deep understanding of Islamic 'turath' (classical heritage) and his ability to bridge Islamic scholarship with modern challenges.
The Raja Muda expressed appreciation for efforts to strengthen the Sheikh Dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi Institute of Thought as a research center uniting scholars, researchers, and the younger generation to advance contemporary Islamic thought. Furthermore, he addressed UniSIRAJ's aspiration to be a 'waqf' (endowment) university, highlighting that this concept is not only part of the institution's identity but also reflects the continuity of the waqf tradition as a foundation for the development of knowledge, research, and human capital.
