Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Customs Import and Export Supporting Document System (MyCIEDS) has been introduced with the objective of preventing data leaks and improving transparency in the processing of import and export documents. This system is anticipated to play a critical role in enhancing the integrity of customs operations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Customs deputy director-general (Customs or Domestic Taxes) Norlela Ismail emphasized that MyCIEDS will fortify the integrity of customs officers and forwarding agents. She explained that customs officers will process documents based solely on the data available in the system, thereby reducing potential errors and leaks. Norlela highlighted the positive feedback received from agents, which indicates that the system has already surpassed initial expectations.
The launch event for the Southern Zone witnessed the presence of Customs director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin, who elaborated on the function of MyCIEDS. She stated that the platform enables customs officers, forwarding agents, and importers to share supporting documents efficiently for each Customs Form submitted through the Customs Information System.
Anis Rizana further noted that MyCIEDS is an integral component of the national agenda aimed at improving cross-border trade governance and boosting the country's competitiveness. The transition to a paperless system is expected to expedite processes, enhance government revenue, and create a more substantial economic impact. Since the phased rollout began in January, over 1,350 companies and forwarding agents across Malaysia have registered as users of the MyCIEDS system.
