Kuala lumpur: The National Registration Department (NRD) has confirmed that the use of MyKad for obtaining subsidies under the BUDI95 initiative is permissible, provided it aligns with existing regulations and legal frameworks.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the NRD emphasized its responsibility to ensure that MyKad, as Malaysia's official identification document, remains secure and is not subject to misuse. Under Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations 1990, it is illegal for anyone other than the rightful owner to use or possess a MyKad. The department has urged citizens not to hand over their MyKad for any purpose, including transactions involving subsidized fuel, to avoid potential legal issues and identity theft.
The NRD reiterated its commitment to maintaining the MyKad as a reliable form of identification, supporting government initiatives such as BUDI95. It clarified that the director-general, Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias, had previously commented on an investigation into the misuse of four MyKads in Kelantan, which was not intended to limit access to government subsidies.
The public is encouraged to seek information from official sources and understand the context of issues before making interpretations, promoting informed and responsible discussions.
