Bangkok: National shot put ace Nani Sahirah Maryata achieved a remarkable feat at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games by securing the women's shot put gold medal and setting a new national record at the Suphachalasai Stadium.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nani Sahirah dominated the event with a significant throw of 16.36 meters on her second attempt, surpassing her previous national record of 15.39 meters, set at the Perlis Open Athletics Championship last year. Areerat Intadis from Thailand claimed the silver with a throw of 16.04 meters, while Vietnam's Huyen Thi Kim earned the bronze with a distance of 15.92 meters.
Nani Sahirah's victory marks an improvement from her bronze medal performance at her SEA Games debut in Cambodia two years ago. The national athletics camp had earlier celebrated another victory when Grace Wong Xiu Mei won the gold in the women's hammer throw, marking the first gold for the team in the competition.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abdul Latif added to the medal tally with a bronze in the 110m hurdles, equalling his personal best time of 13.85 seconds. The gold in this event was won by John Christopher Tolentino from the Philippines, who set a new Games record with a time of 13.66 seconds. Chen Xiang Ang from Singapore took the silver with a time of 13.75 seconds.
In the men's 400m race, Malaysia's hopes for a repeat gold were dashed as reigning champion Umar Osman finished fifth with a time of 47.13 seconds. The gold went to Thailand's Joshua Robert Atkinson, who clocked 45.13 seconds, followed by Vietnam's Ta Ngoc Tuong in second place with 45.53 seconds, and Le Ngoc Phuc in third with 46.21 seconds.
