Nanta Clarifies SSLR1 Project Is Not a Replacement for Sarawak Coastal Bridges

Kuala lumpur: SSLR1 Not Replacing Three Sarawak Coastal Bridges: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stressed that the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road Phase 1 (SSLR1) Project was never intended to replace the construction of the Batang Lupar Bridge, Batang Igan Bridge and Batang Rambungan Bridge as both have different functions and development objectives.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta explained that SSLR1 was introduced as a strategic project by the federal government to connect Sarawak and Sabah without passing through Brunei, thereby enhancing access to the interior areas in northern Sarawak. He emphasized that SSLR1 and the three coastal bridge projects are distinct, targeting different localities and development needs.

Nanta further clarified that the Batang Lupar, Batang Igan, and Batang Rambungan Bridges are designed to provide direct benefits to coastal communities by reducing travel times, improving road safety, and stimulating local economic activities. He highlighted the complementary nature of the development of coastal bridges and inland road networks, aimed at ensuring balanced and inclusive growth in Sarawak.

Additionally, Nanta acknowledged Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg's views on the importance of developing coastal areas and inland road networks. He noted that these views align with the MADANI Government's aspirations to ensure infrastructure development benefits all people according to the needs of each area. Nanta reiterated his commitment to working closely with the Sarawak State Government to identify infrastructure development priorities and consider new proposals through official national development planning channels, considering the financial capacity of the federal government.
