Kuala lumpur: More than 80,000 visitors are expected to flood Dataran Putrajaya in conjunction with National Day 2026 with preparations now reaching between 85 and 90 per cent.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ministry of Communications secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah said preparations involving various levels including static training of all contingents had begun in preparation for the celebration themed "Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati". He mentioned that the government has set the celebration with a modest allocation but assured that excitement will still be felt. An air show will be included, albeit on a smaller scale, and parade assets have been reduced due to the global energy crisis, highlighting the government's cautious approach.
Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah also noted that weather conditions are a focus area, with collaboration held with the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the Department of Environment to gather the latest information for public dissemination. He emphasized the importance of the readiness of the celebration site, stating that it reflects the image and quality of the organization and ensures the event proceeds smoothly and safely.
He further explained that the Ministry of Communications has established 18 working committees to ensure all aspects of the celebration preparations are conducted in an orderly manner. A key committee, the Logistics and Venue Preparation Committee, plays a strategic role in ensuring site readiness and logistical requirements are met effectively.
As the preparations enter their final phase, a rehearsal session for the 2026 National Day Celebration is scheduled to take place over four days from August 26 to 29. The procession and parade will feature 10,819 participants from 77 contingents, alongside 328 assets, 22 electric vehicles, 112 live assets, 22 marching bands, and 11 decorated cars.
